Vinyl siding can hold up well to weather and elements, although over time it can fade, making it look unsightly. Painting your vinyl siding has to be done properly to ensure the paint adheres and doesn't simply peel off of your home.

1. Make Any Needed Repairs

Although your siding may be in good shape, there could be a few cracks or holes you didn't notice. Walk around your house and take a good look at the siding. Get on a ladder to look at the siding up higher on your home as well. If you have any cracks or holes, repair them using silicone. If it's a larger hole that cannot be filled with silicone, use an extra piece of your siding to cover the hole and use the silicone like glue to hold it in place. 2. Clean The Siding

Clean the siding using a pressure washer to remove built up debris such as dust, dirt and even mold or mildew. If you have stains on your siding, try your best to remove the stains using a vinyl siding cleaner and a scrub brush. If you don't remove the stains, you could end up with the stains coming through the paint. If you aren't able to remove the stains, you can use a primer on the siding to help cover the stain and prevent it from showing through.

3. Start Painting

After you've cleaned your siding and allowed it to dry completely, you're clear to start painting. When you paint your vinyl siding, make sure you have plenty of days without rain in the forecast, as you're going to need time for the paint to dry thoroughly. Paint the siding using paint made for vinyl siding and made for the exterior of a home. Paint the siding using paintbrushes and rollers.

If you have a paint sprayer, you can attempt this, but only do so if you know what you're doing. If you don't spray it evenly, you're going to have marks and lines on your siding. Paint the siding with the first coat, using the brushes to get under the laps of siding and the roller to roll on the face of the siding. Paint one coat all over your home, then allow it to dry for at least 24 hours before painting another coat. Be sure you use enough paint that you aren't needing three or four coats of paint, as that will take you awhile to complete.
