Three Things A Residential Painting Contractor Can Do Better Than You

Even homeowners who are skilled DIY remodelers eventually find that they do have limitations. These limitations often come on the heels of a mistake or a project that fails. While it is difficult to screw up painting a wall, there are still things a residential painting contractor can do better than you. Three of them are listed below.

Patch and Repair Holes in Your Walls

Drywall and plaster make for good walls, so long as you do not hit or jab them with anything hard, heavy, or sharp. If you have kids, there is a good chance that you have some holes in your walls somewhere, like that unintended dent where they swung open a door and the knob banged into the wall. There are good ways to fix these things, and there are bad ways to fix these things. No matter the size of the hole or the severity the damage, the painting contractor knows how to fix it expertly before the painting ever begins.

Address Water Stains and Mold

When your painting contractor sees water stains, mold, or mildew, they know that there is something going on behind the wall or above the ceiling. Sometimes it is just extreme moisture and humidity that can cause these things, and that can originate from within the house instead of the walls or ceiling. They might require that you have a mold remediation specialist check that out before getting started on the painting job. If the stains are not a result of water or rain leaks, then the painter can use a special pre-painting treatment to kill and cover the problem before painting over it.

Remove Old Wallpaper

Removing old wallpaper is akin to scraping flesh. Scrape too hard, and there is nothing left but the bones of your house. Scrape too soft, and nothing comes off. The painting contractor has access to special wallpaper removers that cause the old glues on the backs of the paper sheets to disintegrate without eating plaster or drywall. Then the paper just sloughs off with a gentle push of the scraper. If you were to attempt this without really knowing how to do it, you might end up having to pay the contractor first to remove remaining bits of the paper, and then restore the sections of the wall that have giant holes in them. It is best to hire a contractor if you want the old wallpaper removed easily.
