Are You Redecorating Your Living Room To Set An Elegant Mood?

Does your living room presently sit literally empty of all furniture? Perhaps you have moved into a previously owned home, and you are slowly redecorating rooms until you have exactly what you want instead of what the previous owners chose for their decorating themes. If you have decided that you want to establish an elegant mood in your living room, you are more than likely in for some fun planning and shopping. From selecting the wall paint to buying your furniture, here are some ideas that might help you to design a unique and elegant room.

The Wall Paint - Are you going with a dramatic, elegant look or with a more subtle one? For a dramatic room, consider selecting a jewel-toned wall paint, or even more than one color. For example, consider having a color like turquoise as the main color and then have yellow as the contrasting color for a stencil design around the top of the walls and around the center of the walls.

If you want a more subtle feeling, consider colors like very pale yellow or very soft shades of blue or green, all colors that you find in nature. Another idea is to faux paint the walls. For example, to set a truly elegant mood either for a dramatic look or for a subtle look, think of having the commercial painters do faux painting that make the walls like they are made of marble.

The Furniture - If you have chosen to set a dramatic feeling in your elegant living room, consider choosing wooden furniture with upholstery that complements the bold colors you have chosen for the paint on your walls. For example, if you selected the combination of turquoise as the main color and yellow as the supporting color on the walls, think of choosing yellow as the predominant upholstery color and having yellow throw pillows on the sofa and chairs. If you chose more subtle colors for your paint, think of adding at least a little bit of color when you select your furniture.

For instance, for your furniture upholstery, think of choosing a floral pattern that has splashes of color mixed in with more neutral colors. Or select upholstery with an elegant stripe that includes a neutral color and a bold color. Whether you select a dramatic look or a more subtle look, consider mixing styles to add interest to the room. For example, add antique pieces of furniture in strategic places.
